PRIVATE GYM, NEW JERSEY

A private gym with NBA dimensions on the court, and hardwood floor for proper playing performance.  A unique wishbone structural system is made elegant with the use of doubled main members which permitted an economy of height.  Steel beams from the ridge to the clerestory keep with the simple clarity, as does the wood deck.  A clerestory rim of light surrounds the main gym space, made with insulated translucent panels.

The entry sequence is through a gently informal garden in the woods, leading to an octagonal foyer which is almost a jewel box of book-matched maple and cherry accents. The locker rooms are similarly appointed with hardwood.   The purity of the forms led to patterns of framing and structural solutions which exemplify the care we take in design and construction.
