Gorham - Strip  Residence

     2002-05    Surrounded by National Forest
Extraordinary site, extraordinary clients.
Owner - built, with kudos to a nephew, and some wonderful friends....
The house is set in a privately held valley fully surrounded by National Forest.
Walls are constructed of rammed earth, 2' thick, with infill as a contrasting opposite:  inexpensive and bright galvanized steel on studs.  The house is entirely rimmed in light by a clerestory which wraps exposed steel joist roof framing.  An entire
wall of folding glass doors opens at one end.
Heating is in-slab radiant; electricity from solar panels.
Kitchen, dining, and living unit is a separate building from the master bedroom - you walk outside to get inside, continuously connecting to the landscape.
An outdoor shower completes the indoor-outdoor living experience.
